Curved television technology has arrived in New Zealand - but the hefty price tag means you won't see it becoming a home theatre staple anytime soon.
LG launched its new range of ultra high definition televisions at a glitzy function in Auckland last night, and among the range is its ergonomic curved Organic Light Emitting Diode TV.
The 55-inch screen promises to deliver "i-Max-like viewing ... on a smaller scale" and the concave OLED screen comes with white subpixels along with the usual green, red and blue ones, promising faithful colour reproduction and high contrast levels.
But the TV, which is handmade and made to order, doesn't come cheap: It has a RRP of $16,999, meaning it won't be gracing the lounges of most Kiwi households for a while to come.
LG are the first to market with a curved screen, but Samsung and Sony are also promising to introduce their models soon.
