KEY POINTS:
Already a dominating force on United States pop charts, New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have now annexed the digital realm.
Wellington-based Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie's debut album soared to No 3 on the US charts last week, now it has topped internet download sales, according to industry website Billboard.
In addition to digital downloads, the pair have topped the charts for independent album, soundtrack and comedy album, The Dominion Post reported.
The self-titled album, a soundtrack to the pair's hit television show, sold 52,000 in its first week.
Its chart performance set a record for a New Zealand act, surpassing Crowded House's self-titled 1986 debut which reached No 12.
Many of the songs on Flight of the Conchords featured on their television show, a comedy series set in New York where Clement and McKenzie play struggling musicians and recount their attempts to crack the big-time.
The pair claimed international success earlier this year when they won a Grammy for their comedy album, The Distant Future, which reached No 116 on the Billboard 200 chart.
