The NZ Comedy Festival is set to unleash itself upon the funnybones of Auckland and Wellington from April 29. TimeOut has rounded up a dozen or so local and international stars of this year's fest to discuss their approach to funny.
From: Australia. Wait, come back! We're not like the others!
As seen on: A bunch of telly shows, our stage shows and the internet. Last time on stage in New Zealand was touring with Robin Williams. Good fun with nice man.
Name of show (and how long did it take you to think it up?): Heaven by Storm. It took about 10 seconds to think up the name. Numerous years later we're still thinking up the show itself.
Conceptual description of show in 10 words or less: We die. Only one place in heaven. Awkward. Cue action.
Are props required? If so, what's the most important one? Probably the inflatable dinosaur.
Can we bring our mum? If she doesn't mind a touch of bad language and blasphemy and is into skydiving and space movies, she'll have a hoot.
If you don't have another telly/radio/whatever gig, what would you like it to be? We'd love to do motion capture for Peter Jackson. Seriously.
How many Auckland Comedy Festival appearances is this for you? This is our fourth. We'll keep coming till we get it right.
What have you learned from your past appearances? We had to learn stuff before? Oh bugger, back to square one.
In a year like 2011, what is there to laugh about? Pretty much everything. The entire world is a joke right now.
Who's your favourite live comedian of all time and why? We don't play favourites - everyone's special in their own way, especially early Steve Martin and recent Stewart Lee.
Complete this sentence: "Please come to my show because ..." We asked you nicely.
