The NZ Comedy Festival is set to unleash itself upon the funnybones of Auckland and Wellington from April 29. TimeOut has rounded up a dozen or so local and international stars of this year's fest to discuss their approach to funny.

Name of show (and how long did it take you to think it up?): The Thing is ... The comedians came up with the title at Last Laughs last year. I figured out the show in Edinburgh.
Conceptual description of show in 10 words or less: Travelling Welsh Samoan finds hilarious lies and funnier excuses.
Are props required? If so, what's the most important one? A drink. Talk lots. Dry throat.
Can we bring our mum? Depends how awesome your mum is.
If you don't have another telly/radio/whatever gig, what would you like it to be? Some sort of geeky magazine show, where a bunch of bros hang out and talk about computer games and films.
How many Auckland comedy festival appearances is this for you?: Eight? That seems a lot, I'm only 28.
What have you learned from your past appearances?: If you grow the moustache, own the moustache.
In a year like 2011, what is there to laugh about? It's the 21st century and, for some reason, machete crime is on the up?
Who's your favourite live comedian of all time? Daniel Kitson.
Complete this sentence: "Please come to my show because ..." Machete crime is on the up, and I make fun of machete criminals, so any night could be my last show ever.
