Two of New Zealand's best-known comedians have wed in Las Vegas while on a six-week tour of the United States.
Jeremy Elwood and Michele A'Court, who both star on TV3's 7 Days comedy show, announced their marriage on Facebook and Twitter to surprised friends back home.
On Saturday Elwood tweeted: "Highlights of the trip so far; Gladys Knight, Angels baseball, and getting married. Not necessarily in that order."
Comedian Chris Brain, a close friend, said the announcement had caught the comedy community by surprise.
He did not know if it was spontaneous or planned in advance: "I'm as in the dark as just about everyone else."
Brain said he was thrilled for the couple, who have been together for about 12 years.
"They're great people, a great couple, so I can't imagine anyone being unhappy for them."
Elwood's Facebook page was flooded with messages of congratulation - although several came with disclaimers necessary when dealing with comedians.
"If we're not the victims of an elaborate joke, then great move," said one friend.
Another said: "I hope you went little white chapel or Elvis celebrant options. Preferably both."
And fellow comedian Raybon Kan referenced the popular Hangover movie when he asked whether a tiger or Mike Tyson were involved.
