Well, we did say it might happen - that the mismatched power trio who popped up this time last year fronting Seven Sharp, TV One's light and bright new slant on current affairs, wouldn't survive into the new year.
And that line-up didn't - Greg Boyed falling on his sword some months before the end of the show's ignoble 2013 run, while co-host Ali Mau had her final cut delivered in a more traditional manner, along with the show's producer.
This sort of thing might have thrown a lesser power than TVNZ, convinced them to go back to the future, cut back on the fluff and chit-chat, take the events of the day at least a bit seriously.
But not them. No, without recourse to either rocket science or lateral thinking, the channel simply replaced the casualties, did some minimal tweaking and last night relaunched the show, still obviously convinced that it's the messengers and not the messages that matter. So, joining sole survivor Jesse Mulligan we have Mike Hosking and Toni Street, Hosking acknowledging the elephant in the room with his opening line to Mulligan: "You must be stoked just to be here."
Oh yes, there were some stories, only one of them having anything to do with the news of the day, a nice light and fluffy one on Lorde conquering the Grammys yesterday.
