The 'Dead Man Down' star - who has been sober for eight years - revealed his new movie has made him think a lot about gun ownership and he would never want to own a weapon in case his life ever spun out of control again.
The 36-year-old Irish actor told the MailOnline website: "I wouldn't trust myself to have a gun. What if I got drunk again? What if my heart is broken and I go crazy for a bit, or, even worse, what if I forget to lock my gun away somewhere safe and someone has an accident? I forget my car keys all the time, so why not that?
"Americans say: 'Oh, but it's our constitutional right, we're all grown-ups, give us guns.'
"Well, don't give me a gun, because I'm a human being!"
Colin - who has a nine-year-old son, James, with model Kim Bordenave, who has Angelman Syndrome, and a three-year-old son, Henry, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus - also revealed he hopes to scale back his career in eight years.
He said: "I'll be 45 then, and I don't want to be making films back to back.
