Chris Pine in talks for Wonder Woman role

Chris Pine has entered negotiations to portray the love of interest of Wonder Woman in the upcoming superhero film starring Gal Gadot as the Amazon warrior princess.

The 34-year-old actor would portray Steve Trevor in the origin story, according to an article by Variety.

Pine won over Warner Bros production executives and 30-year-old Israeli actress Gadot at his meeting and the studio pursued him for the role.

Wonder Woman recently acquired new director Patty Jenkins who replaced Michelle MacLaren.

The script was written by Jason Fuchs and the film was scheduled for release in 2017.

Pine has starred as Captain James T. Kirk in the past two Star Trek films and will reprise his role for the third film Star Trek Beyond due out in 2016.

The Los Angeles native has been working on the bank heist film Comancheria that also stars Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster.

He also starred in the post-nuclear war sci-fi film Z For Zachariah that premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and scheduled for wider release in August.

Pine also can be seen in the disaster film The Finest Hours due out in January 2016.

Gadot can first be seen as Wonder Woman in the Zack Snyder directed superhero film Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice coming out on March 24, 2016.

It will be the first time that Wonder Woman will be portrayed in film in the character's more than 70-year history.

Wonder Woman's love interest Steve Trevor in the comic books was an US Army intelligence officer in World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island.

He was nursed back to health on the isolated homeland of the Amazons by princess Diana who fell in love and followed him when he returned to the outside world.

She became Wonder Woman and also his co-worker known by her secret identity Diana Prince.

Lyle Waggoner, 80, portrayed the character in the 1976 television series Wonder Woman starring 63-year-old Lynda Carter as the Amazon princess.
