Chris Brown documentary reveals suicidal thoughts

Disgraced singer Chris Brown has revealed he considered suicide following his 2009 assault of Rihanna.

Brown's comments appear in the new trailer for his upcoming documentary Welcome to My Life.

The clip features interviews with Jamie Foxx, Usher, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige, as well as Rita Ora, DJ Khaled and Mike Tyson.

In it, Brown talks about his rise to fame and his relationship with singer Rihanna.

"Like real-life rock stars," the R&B star says of their highly publicised romance. "It was like a fairy tale."

But Brown was charged with felony assault after he viciously attacked Rihanna in her car in 2009.

The then 19-year-old was eventually sentenced to community labour, five years on probation with a restraining order, which required him to stay away from his victim.

"I went from being on top of the world, No 1 songs and being kinda like America's sweetheart to being public enemy No 1," Brown says of the fallout.

He then adds: "I felt like a f***ing monster."

In the trailer, the interviews and comments are combined with moody background music, old interview clips with Brown and dramatic news headlines and footage before, during and after the assault.

There are also short snippets from his concerts and the beginnings of an acceptance speech at an awards ceremony.

Brown's mother also features in the trailer and weighs in about her son's fall from grace.

"That was the worst day of my life and probably of his life. I felt like I was gonna lose my child."

According to Brown, she almost did.

"I was thinking about suicide and everything else," he says, before finishing the trailer by attempting to silence his doubters.

"If there was ever a doubt in your mind Chris Brown was done, he was finished ... I wouldn't bet on it."

The film is "coming soon", according to the trailer, but no release date has been announced.
