Tickets to both the Red Hot Chili Peppers Auckland shows sold out in 20 minutes this morning.
Tickets to the band's shows at Vector Arena on April 21 and 22 went on sale to the general public at 9am this morning, and were gone soon after.
Pre-sale tickets to an initial concert on Saturday April 21 went on sale last to Visa cardholders last Wednesday and the demand was so great that a second concert, scheduled for Sunday April 22, was announced just one hour later.
Eighty per cent of this morning's tickets were snapped up over the Internet, meaning disappointment for many fans queuing at stores around the country.
The band, responsible for New Zealand's highest selling album of 2006 - Stadium Arcadium, will perform at the yet-to-be-opened Vector Arena, with a maximum capacity of 12,000.
Formed in 1983, the Chili Peppers have recorded nine studio albums and sold more than 60 million records worldwide.
Fronted by Anthony Kiedis, the band last performed in New Zealand in 2002, in front of a 20,000 strong crowd at Auckland's Western Springs Stadium.
