Child-free: Miley Cyrus reveals why she won't have a baby with Liam Hemsworth

Pop singer Miley Cyrus and her Aussie movie star beau Liam Hemsworth will not be having babies anytime soon. In a new interview with Elle magazine, the environmentally conscious star explains that they're not interested in reproducing until there are "fish in the water."

"Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I'm not bringing in another person to deal with that. We don't want to reproduce because we know that the earth can't handle it."

"The earth is angry. We've been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women," said Cyrus, who is also known for her strong feminist views.

"We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it's exhausted. It can't produce. We're getting handed a piece-of-s*it planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child."

Cyrus also objected to the way women who choose not to have children are viewed in society.

"If you don't want children, people feel sorry for you, like you're a cold, heartless b*tch who's not capable of love," she said. "Why are we trained that love means putting yourself second and those you love first? If you love yourself, then what? You come first."

During the wide-ranging issue, Cyrus, who identifies as queer, also addressed her sexuality. She dated Hemsworth on and off for 10 years before marrying him last December, but has also dated women included Irish/NewZealand model Stella Maxwell.

"I mean, do people really think that I'm at home in a f**king apron cooking dinner? I'm in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women..." she said.

"I made a partner decision. This [Hemsworth] is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don't fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don't even like that word."

Cyrus also caused a stir on Instagram this week when she posted a promo shot from her Mother's Daughter music video that reads "Virginity is a social construct". Other promo shots read "Tough titties", "Feminist AF", "Not an object" and "Every woman is a riot", posted alongside images of Cyrus writhing around in a red PVC body suit with long red fingernails.

Some followers were supportive of the post, writing, "Men offended for no reason are gonna comment how this is going to ruin their lives now", while others were critical. "Basic biology...why is science being attacked everyday by these celebrities...who'll win? A science book or a Miley Cyrus post with a billion likes?"

Cyrus recently released her new EP She Is Coming and appears in an episode of the new season of Netflix series Black Mirror.
