To mark the 40th anniversary of the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Screen brings us the stories behind some of our most notable local films.
Packed with Kiwi comedy talent, The Breaker Upperers is the tale of two besties whose friendship unravels when they enter into the business of breaking up couples for cash.
Co-written, co-directed and co-starring the multi-talented Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami, the movie also has the touch of Taika Waititi who had an executive producing role. Since its debut at SXSW in March The Breaker Upperers has won-over critics and stormed the local box office. Watch out world!
Here director Jackie Van Beek talks about her pride in the movie, in promoting women in film, and bringing an Auckland to the screen that is not just "six-bedroom villas".
"Madeleine and I...proud about that"
