To mark the 40th anniversary of the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Screen brings us the stories behind some of our most notable local films.
One of the biggest local films of the 1980s, Came a Hot Friday was based on the Ronald Hugh Morrieson novel of the same name.
The boisterous comedy followed the fortunes of two conmen in a sleepy New Zealand country town. Starring Billy T James as a Mexican-Māori bandito, the film generated rave reviews throughout the country.
Here director Ian Mune recalls how his colour blindness affected the film shoot and looks back on "the most enjoyable six months of my life".
