Catwoman writer admits 'it was a s**t movie'

It was nominated for seven 'worst movie' Razzies, and has just a 9 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fourteen years on, Catwoman screenwriter John Rogers has admitted it was a "s**t movie."

Rogers, who was one of the credited writers in the infamous 2004 Halle Berry film, took to Twitter to slam his own work while praising Black Panther.

It started when one Twitter user questioned why the Marvel film was attracting so much praise for cultural representation, while Catwoman did not.

Rogers quickly weighed in, blasting Catwoman.

Couldn’t be Selina Kyle because of an insane rights issue.

Full disclosure: I was fired off the movie after writing the green light draft because I kept arguing with notes that’d make the movie “very, very bad.” Which I said out loud. At meetings.

"As one of the credited writers of Catwoman, I believe I have the authority to say: Because it was a s**t movie dumped by the studio at the end of a style cycle, and had zero cultural relevance either in front of or behind the camera.

"Also full disclosure: I've never watched the movie all the way through in one sitting. I skipped premiere night to shoot @jenni_baird audition footage for GLOBAL FREQUENCY. And they'd fired me anyway for, y'know, snark."

Following its release, Catwoman was destroyed by critics, who described it as "painful", "an awful mess", and "relentlessly gaudy".

After the initial tweets, Rogers began answering DC fans' questions about the movie, including why the character's name was changed from Selina to Patience.

At the very opposite end of the scale, Black Panther has been hailed as an early favourite for one of the best movies of 2018, and brought in a whopping $96 million on its opening night alone.
