Cate Blanchett has won the best actress award at the inaugural Richard Attenborough Film Awards for her role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
The period drama Atonement also picked up another host of awards. It received four prizes including Best Film, Film-Maker of the year for director Joe Wright, Actor of the Year for James McAvoy and Screenwriter of the Year for Christopher Hampton.
Sam Riley was named Rising Star of the Year for his breakthrough performance as Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in Control. The awards are voted by regional film journalists in the UK.
