Cate Blanchett has reportedly revealed she is bisexual.

The two-time Oscar winner, who has three sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, six, and adopted baby daughter Edith with husband Andrew Upton, has been in a relationship with a woman "many times" in the past.

The Carol star portrays a women in a same-sex relationship in the upcoming film and when asked if was her first turn as a lesbian, the 45-year-old actress coyly said: "On film - or in real life?"

When pressed to confirm she has dated women, she told Variety.com: "Yes. Many times."

But the Blue Jasmine star isn't a fan of labels and claims she "never thought about" the fact her character never "comes out".

She added: "I don't think Carol thought about it."

Meanwhile, the actress claims she would probably "end up in rehab" if she joined "addictive" social media sites such as Twitter, and thinks people have become too interested in the lives of others.

She said: "We need to get into people's private lives now. If they are hiding something, they are dishonest."

Despite her success, Blanchett hates watching her own movies and wasn't happy with her performance in The Aviator in 2004.

She said: "I was filled with disappointment and regret.

"I never think I have it. Maybe that's why I keep working."
