Carrie Fisher's posthumous Star Wars: Episode IX performance looks 'like it was shot yesterday'

Star Wars fans will be blown away by Carrie Fisher's posthumous performance in the final film.

In an appearance on Good Morning America, the late star's brother Todd explained that Fisher's scenes as Leia were created with unused footage — and they're seriously good.

"There's a lot of minutes of footage. I don't mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline," he said.

"That's what's going to give everybody such a great kick, it's going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday."

He added that Fisher's family had given the film their tick of approval, saying they were "thrilled at what's been done."

On December 27, 2016, Carrie passed away aged 60 after suffering a massive heart attack on a flight from London to LA days earlier.

She had largely completed filming her scenes for The Last Jedi before her passing and Carrie earned rave reviews from critics when the film was released.

The actress was later found to have died of sleep apnoea and "other factors", according to the coroner's report.

The star was posthumously awarded her first Grammy Award in recognition of her book, The Princess Diarist last year.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres on December 20, 2019.
