Caitlyn Jenner has made her first public appearance, speaking at the Los Angeles LGBT Youth Centre about her recent experience transitioning from Bruce to Caitlyn.

Sporting knee-high boots and jeans, the 65-year-old was flanked by security guards and assistants, who tried to shield the reality star from paparazzi's lenses with umbrellas.

During the visit, which reportedly lasted two hours, Jenner spoke to a small group of teens and young adults and took a tour of the facility.

Caitlyn Jenner has made her first public appearance since transitioning from Bruce Jenner.

Jenner has previously said she wanted to share her story in the hopes she can help other people experiencing similar feelings.

Cameras appeared to follow Jenner into the centre, which may feature in her upcoming E! reality show I Am Cait.

I Am Cait will premiere later this month on E!

New reports suggest the former Olympian is being paid US$5 million ($7.1m) for the series, making her the highest paid reality star on the network.

Last month, an E! special Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce became highest rating programme in the history of the network.

Earlier this week, Jenner headed on a road trip with a group of transgender friends, posting this picture to Instagram.
