KEY POINTS:
Former All Black Frank Bunce was shown the red card last night and voted off TV One's Dancing with the Stars.
He started his paso doble off wearing a batman-like cape. But that and his somewhat wooden dance style failed to impress the judges who gave him a score of 16 out of 40 - the lowest of the night.
The performance was also marred when his partner Krystal Stuart took an unplanned, but barely detectable, fall.
The judges, and Bunce himself, expressed disappointment at the stilted performance.
Judge Craig Revel-Horwood said he didn't use the cape at all. "I'm very disappointed ... your arms were very lazy and you didn't command the dance," he said.
Judge Brendan Cole also wasn't impressed, saying Bunce didn't stamp his authority on the dance.
Afterwards, Bunce blamed himself for the poor performance.
"I'm disappointed with what we did out there ... the fall wasn't part of the plan."
However, he admitted that the show had piqued his interest in dancing.
"I'm not just going to switch over the channel when I see it come on TV anymore," he said.
Broadcaster Paul Holmes stunned the audience with his paso doble, which was danced to Michael Jackson's hit song Thriller.
Holmes, who looked terrified throughout the performance, got into the spirit of the song by donning a sparkly Jackson-esque glove and Jackson-inspired jacket.
He even attempted a few of the singers dance moves, which verged on comical brilliance.
Revel-Horwood described his performance as "appallingly fabulous" and "highly, highly amusing".
Judge Carol-Ann Hickmore said: "In three years, there hasn't been a more entertaining dance."
Surprisingly, he scored a respectable 23.
Actress Greer Robson was rewarded for her style, when she scored 35 points for her paso doble - the highest haul of the night.
Singer and NZ Idol judge Megan Alatini, scored 30 for her fox trot.
Judge Carol-Ann Hickmore described her performance as a "very, very good effort".
Former Tall Black Brendon Pongia also scored 30 for his fox trot, and infomercial queen Suzanne Paul scored 29 for hers.
Last week, Wanganui Mayor Michael Laws was voted off after scoring an embarrassing nine points and the week before TV celebrity and former Silver Fern April Ieremia was the show's first casualty.
