Bruno Mars breaks Beyonce's NZ concert record with massive crowds

Bruno Mars broke a New Zealand concert record last week, when more than 48,000 Kiwi fans flocked to see him over the course of his four-night tour.

The pop star completely sold out all four of his Spark Arena dates, setting a new record for the highest audience attendance at the venue for a concert artist.

A massive 48,783 fans travelled from around the country to be at the shows on February 27, 28 and March 2, 3.

Live Nation Australia Chairman Michael Coppel said it was "a thrill to watch Bruno and his band practice their own particular brand of magic" during the tour.

The record was previously held by Beyonce, who sold 44, 596 tickets across four shows during her Mrs Carter Show world tour in 2013.

Bruno Mars was in such high demand, many fell victim to ticket scams, including Bay of Plenty man Tommy Wilson and a 9-year-old fan who travelled from Christchurch to see the star play.

There have been so many recent complaints about fake tickets against ticket reselling website Viagogo that the Commerce Commission has now launched an investigation into the website.

The 228 complaints included 21 received over the past weekend alone, relating to upcoming sporting events and concerts including Celine Dion and Ed Sheeran, as well as Bruno Mars.
