Broods on tour: Kicking it with Sam Smith

Kiwi duo Broods is on tour with British pop star Sam Smith.

Kiwi alt-pop duo Broods - aka Georgia and Caleb Nott - are on tour with the talented Sam Smith and they're compiling their experiences for nzherald.co.nz. Here's part one of their tour diary.

So far we've done 5 shows on the Sam Smith American tour. Boston, Washington, New York (twice) and Chicago last night. Unfortunately the Toronto show was cancelled because Sam was sick, but we sent him some sunflowers and a Mickey Mouse card to lift his spirits. Sam and his team are super lovely. His keyboard player Reuben is easily found because he sings "broooooooooods!!!" in a beautiful falsetto whenever he enters the venue.

We've met and caught up with some amazing fans along the way so far who have given us letters, mix CDs and trinkets. At one of our shows a pair had giant print outs of our faces, and at a festival in Albany we had our first ever crowd surfers during our set!

We've named our tour bus Phyllis. She's very practical, reliable and gets the job done. However, her colour scheme is 50 shades of brown.

On our travels we went on a family (crew) trip to Niagra falls. It's incredible!!! So beautiful and massive! We're in Chicago right now, which is a beautiful city. A Ferris wheel ride at Navy Pier is a great way to take it the scenery. Next stop - Vancouver!
