She told BBC Radio 4’s programme Today: “It’s very funny. I think it is also fun to do, and my industry is completely broken. I don’t think it’s sustainable, and I think it’s a complete failure. I think it will collapse as well.”
“So I do think people are going to have to find solutions to fund their art. I think it’s quite empowering – and I’m also creating jobs with my bum now, for example. I couldn’t bring a crew member [who’s] on tour with me in the UK to Europe, but now I can, because of my OnlyFans website.”
Nash revealed she was launching the account to help subsidise her tour, which started in Glasgow, Scotland on November 21.
The singer has claimed touring costs have risen more than 30% from 2022, and she has struggled with the expenses of travel, food, accommodation and staff.
She has joined a number of celebrities boosting their income with pictures of themselves on OnlyFans, including rapper Cardi B and Kate Moss’ younger sister Lottie Moss.
Lily Allen charges for images of her feet on the platform and has been open about her lucrative sideline. In 2023, it was estimated her OnlyFans account was bringing in roughly £10,000 ($21,500) a month.
She said at the time she was “earning more money from having 1000 people subscribe to pictures of [my] feet” than from her music sales.
Speaking on the Today programme, Nash said: “I don’t really have time in my schedule to get another type of job, and this was an idea that I just thought of because I’ve made a record this year, I’m on three tours in a row, and that’s a massive financial strain.”
She added: “I think the reason people are talking about me going on tours is because I’m selling pictures of my ass now. I’ve already been working my ass off for years, and now I’m just going to get paid really well for it, and I’m going to pay my employees really well for it, too.”
Nash has enjoyed one top-10 single and two top-10 albums in the UK since launching her career in 2005.
She hopes her OnlyFans plan will highlight the financial pressures on modern musicians, saying touring is fast becoming a “passion project”.
Upon launching her OnlyFans account, she implored fans to “buy either a piece of my merch or my ass on my new OnlyFans account katenyash87 to support me paying great wages and putting on a high-quality show, as I will not sacrifice either of [those] things”.
Nash has nurtured interests outside of music during her career, and in 2017 starred in the Netflix series Glow, playing a female wrestler.
When the series was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nash launched an account on Patreon, a site that allows fans to financially patronise creatives in exchange for for exclusive content.
