Breaking Dawn's birth scene causes seizures

It was the birthing scene that Twilight fans couldn't wait for.

But the controversial birth scene in the latest vampire movie Breaking Dawn - Part I has been too much for some.

The scene, in which Bella (Kristen Stewart) gives birth to Edward's human-vampire hybrid baby, has been described as "intense" and "violent" and includes flashing lights.

Stewart said she "went nuts" during filming.

"I was going for this weird mix of turning into the most feral mother you can imagine and also fighting for my own life. I mean, I was a nutcase. I was an absolute nutcase."

A Utah woman told Salt Lake City's ABC 4 News that her husband experienced a seizure after viewing the movie.

"When the birthing scene came on the screen, "(My husband) started mumbling and he was blinking on and off with his eyes at that point. I was kneeling in front of him slapping his face."

He couldn't remember the incident.

"I didn't really remember what happened after that. I think I blacked out. According to her, I was shaking and mumbling different noises," he said.

And California resident Brandon Gephart started convulsing after the scene.

His girlfriend said he was "convulsing, snorting, trying to breathe," Fox News reported.

Dr Dan Lowenstein, director of the University of California, San Francisco Epilepsy Centre told ABC News said there were many trigger points for seizures, but flashing lights were one of the biggest.

"When the brain is functioning normally, there are neurons firing all over the place," he said. "During a seizure, there's an abnormal synchronisation that we don't usually have."
