KEY POINTS:
Brad Pitt wants to set the record straight about the veritable tabloid 'love triangle' that is Branjengelina.
In an exclusive interview with W magazine, Pitt leaps to defend his sweetheart, Angelina Jolie, insisting that she's not a homewrecker and didn't bring down the curtain on his marriage to Jennifer Aniston.
Unluckly in love Aniston blabbed to Vogue magazine last November and broke her silence about ex-hubby Pitt's highly-publicised romance with ladylove, Jolie.
"That was really uncool..."
Aniston famously branded Jolie "uncool" in the interview, and took a swipe at the actress for spilling the beans to the New York Times about her blossoming romance with Pitt while they were filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith - when he and Aniston were still married.
Then in December GQ magazine ran an interview with Aniston where she referred to Jolie's recent comments about her experience filming with Pitt, saying she couldn't wait for their kids to be old enough to see Mr & Mrs Smith - because that's "where their parents fell in love."
Aniston said Jolie's comments were "definitely a confirmation for me of something that wasn't quite confirmed at the time."
Legend has it that Jolie and Pitt did indeed fall for each other on that particular film set - before his relationship with Aniston was over. But Pitt says that's not strictly true. He maintains that he was faithful to Aniston.
"What people don't understand is that we filmed for a year. We were still filming after Jen and I split up.
"Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't," he says.
"I'm very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful. [The film] will mean something to our kids. It will. That's all."
But Pitt says he bares no grudge against Aniston over her recent candour concerning their love split.
"Listen, man, Jen is a sweetheart," Pitt tells the February issue of W magazine.
"I think she got dragged into that one [saying Jolie was "uncool"], and then there's a second round to all of that Angie versus Jen. It's so created."
Pitt also adds that he keeps in touch with his ex.
"We still check in with each other," he adds. "She was a big part of my life, and me hers. I don't see how there cannot be [that]. That's life, man. That's life."
And while he's yet to make an honest woman of Jolie, Pitt says in the interview that he believes all people should have the freedom to tie the proverbial knot.
"People who are against gay marriage do not understand the very freedoms that they themselves are enjoying," he said.
"What if someone said, 'Sorry, no Christianity here? No Judaism. Certainly no Mormons.' No one would stand for that, and I wouldn't allow anyone to say that either. I'd fight them in the same way."
Of the arty shots he took of Jolie breastfeeding last year, he said: "We have fun working together; these things bring you closer, " he says of the snaps. "And let me tell you, it's really sexy to see your loved one through the lens. I went much further [photographing Jolie]. I didn't show those [pictures]."
Next serve is yours, Ms. Aniston. Just make sure it's cold...
