Booker T Jones' fingers have conjured up some of the greatest organ licks in rock'n'soul but this attempt at a late career revival solo album just falters in its choice of material and its leaden delivery.
Here, the veteran Stax-Volt sessioneer and MGs leader gets the Drive-By Truckers as a rhythm section and the guitar of sometime employer Neil Young on 10 tracks including OutKast's Hey Ya and Tom Waits' Get Behind the Mule.
His cohorts barely leave room to let Booker's Hammond B3 do its whirly-swirly thing, save for Space City - funnily enough a Truckers song. Mostly it's just sad to hear the man behind Green Onions get the meat'n'potatoes treatment.
