KEY POINTS:
Hit Broadway musical Wicked, a show based on the 'untold story of the witches of Oz' is heading to Australia.
The multi-million dollar stage show, which premieres in Melbourne in July, will star Rob Guest, known to NZ audiences as the man who played the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera for a record 7 years.
Guest will appear as the Wizard, along with Amanda Harrison (the 'wicked' witch) and Lucy Durack (the 'good' witch) in the production.
The story follows the origins of the two witches, long before Dorothy arrives on the scene. The pair start out as school friends, one, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and popular. Wicked tells the story of their journey as they grow up to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
Wicked will open in Melbourne's Regent Theatre on July 12.
