Cate Blanchett is set to make her feature film directorial debut on an adaptation of Herman Koch's novel The Dinner, a tense drama that explores how far people will go to protect their children.
It is unclear whether the Australian actress will star in the film, says Deadline.com.
American screenwriter Oren Moverman, who directed and co-wrote The Messenger, will adapt The Dinner, which was first published in Dutch in 2009 and has now been translated into 21 languages.
Until now, Blanchett's directing has been limited to the stage: she spent five years as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company alongside her playwright husband Andrew Upton before stepping down in December 2012.
Blanchett is tipped to get an Oscar nomination for her role in the film Blue Jasmine, directed by Woody Allen.
