"A few days ago, I heard Ryan was back in town. Then today, lots of signs went up at Boone Hall Plantation stating that it was holding a private event, so no one could get into the area. I also started hearing rumours that a celebrity wedding was taking place," she said.
"I am being told there were around 60 people at the event and that a local restaurant may have catered it. Ryan has always loved it here and when he got together with Blake, he started to bring her here, too."
The Green Lantern co-stars - who have been dating for just under a year - traded "I dos" in front of 70 guests, People reports.
The guest list reportedly included family, friends, famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin and Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine, a good friend of the Gossip Girl star.
The couple's reception took place underneath a large white tent at the Plantation on Sunday evening, with music provided by Welch along with a DJ, sources confirm.
According to the mag, the actress's mother and sister were spotted grabbing lunch in town earlier this weekend with Bette Midler.
Rumours quickly circulated that Midler had also attended the wedding, and may have even sang at the reception. However, a rep for the star later denied she was at the bash.
"Where do these knuckleheads get the idea that I went to a wedding and actually SANG at it?! Can you imagine? I was in a hotel lobby is all!" Midler also tweeted.
'An intimate, personalised party'
Reynolds and Lively also enlisted the help of domestic doyenne Martha Stewart's wedding gurus for the top-secret nuptials.
According to Martha Stewart Weddings (who had exclusive coverage of the event), a team worked with the pair and wedding planner Tara Guérard to create "an intimate, personalised party" for immediate and extended family "at a rustic barn" in South Carolina.
"From the heartfelt ceremony to the fun-filled carnival hour and elegant reception, it was a truly enchanting celebration," according to the magazine, which promises more coverage of the wedding in their December issue.
"Ryan, who has been a long-time fan of Charleston, chose to mark this special occasion in one of his favourite towns," the mag adds.
And the pair got hitched designer style.
Lively wore a one-of-a-kind Marchesa couture bridal gown with a hand-draped silk tulle bodice adorned with crystal and rose gold embroidery, the fashion house confirmed to Us Weekly.
Her bridesmaids wore blush silk chiffon dresses from the same designer. All the ladies wore custom Christian Louboutin shoes.
The groom and groomsmen donned Burberry suits, accessorised with custom-made leather braces created by designer Christopher Bailey, reports Martha Stewart Weddings.
The couple exchanged rings by Lorraine Schwartz.
As for the cake, it reportedly cost US$3000, and travelled through three different states in a truck to get to the wedding on time.
"Ryan and Blake wanted the event to look and feel like home," Guérard also dished to E! News. "With décor and live music, we all created the charm, elegance and magic of times passed," she said.
"It was truly a beautiful evening and celebration."
Wedding plans have been in motion for months. Guérard also said she accompanied the couple on a venue-scouting trip around Charleston in June.
According to E! Online, the new Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds are still in South Carolina, and will depart for their honeymoon this week.
'I'm happy for her'
Meanwhile, actor Penn Badgley says he "couldn't be happier" for his ex and Gossip Girl co-star Lively.
Badgley, 25, who dated the starlet from 2007 to 2010 after meeting on the set of the TV show, thinks the newlyweds are "pretty spot-on".
"I actually didn't know until last night, but I think it's fantastic," Badgley told People. "I couldn't be happier for her.
"They're pretty spot on. I'm so happy for her. I think it's everything that it should be."
This is the first marriage for Lively, and the second trip down the aisle for Reynolds. Before dating the former Sexiest Man Alive, she was romantically linked to Leonardo DiCaprio, but they split after five months.
Reynolds married Scarlett Johansson in 2008 in a quiet ceremony in British Columbia. The couple divorced two years later, citing irreconcilable differences. The actor was also previously engaged to Alanis Morissette from 2004 - 2007.
Wedding rumours for Lively and Reynolds swirled back in July.
Webloid TMZ published a police report - filed by Reynolds, who complained that a photographer was following him - which quoted the investigating officer as stating, "upon arrival I spoke with Ryan Reynolds and his wife".
The report referred to Reynolds' so-called wife twice in the report.
Sources close to the pair dismissed the marriage chatter at the time, claiming the report was inaccurate.
Turns out the cop was just a few months premature.
First came the marriage...followed by the carriage(s)?
Just a few weeks before tying the knot, Lively dished to Allure magazine that she has babies on the brain.
"Right now, I'm so peaceful," the Gossip Girl star said in an interview for the mag's October issue. "I've never been happier in my life," she added.
Although Lively didn't mention Reynolds by name, she revealed that she's keen to have children - lots of them.
"I've always wanted a big family," she said. "Oh, I'd love 30 [children] if I could."
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
