As a movement to replace statues of racist figures from history sweeps the globe, one US resident is calling for them to be replaced with a very different cultural icon.
The petition calls for Confederate statues in the state of Louisiana to be replaced with monuments to Britney Spears.
Started by Kassie Thibodeaux, it has already amassed thousands of signatures and it calls on the state government to "do the right thing: Replace Confederate statues with an actual Louisiana hero and influential human being, Britney Spears".
The petition offers examples of the singer's charitable works and describes her as an"inspiration to millions" for overcoming her very public mental breakdown.
"She's already earned her star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and now it's time for her home state to honour her with the tribute that she deserves," the petition states.
