KEY POINTS:
The Auckland Theatre Company continues to strengthen its annual "new plays in development" programme, a process that has previously seen works such as Geoff Chapple's Hatch and Michael Galvin's The Ocean Star brought to fruition.
This year, three scripts are being workshopped before public presentation as semi-staged readings. The first of these is romantic comedy Mike and Virginia, written by Kathryn Burnett and Nick Ward, directed by Peter Elliott, and with Ian Hughes, Stephen Papps, Bonnie Soper, Jennifer Ward-Lealand and Tandi Wright in the cast.
You can catch it at the Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre, next Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm, May 11 at 10.30pm and May 12 at 8pm.
At the same venue next Wednesday May 9 (8pm) is Where We Once Belonged, a new play by Dave Armstrong, directed by Dave Fane and Colin McColl, with a cast of five including Nora Aati and Robbie Magasiva. Adapted from Sia Figiel's novel, it is a coming-of-age story about a young Samoan girl. It is also staged on May 11 at 8pm and May 12 at 2pm.
And Galvin's latest offering, Station To Station, directed by Paul Gittins, is staged next Thursday at 8pm, and May 12 at 5pm. A dark comedy about a mother and son travelling from "drab Kiwi suburbia to gaudy shopping mall to Jerusalem and a devastating act of terrorism", it features Rachael Dyson-McGregor, Mark Ferguson, Mark Ruka and Annie Whittle. All tickets are $10.
