Bindi Irwin to join Dancing With the Stars

Bindi Irwin will go from wrangling crocodiles to Dancing With The Stars in the upcoming season on the US reality show.

The 17-year-old will start appearing on the ABC series in the US on September 14 where she'll shed her khaki outfits and workboots for glamorous dresses and high heals.

She said that could be more challenging than working with animals.

"I'm used to khaki and boots and I think it will always be a part of my life," Irwin told Good Morning America.

"We always say khaki is not just a colour its an attitude. Its a part of who we here.

"You can't climb a tree or wrangle a snake in a dress very easily so this is completely different. I am used to wrangling crocodiles."

Irwin tweeted the news of her signing-on to the 21st season of the series and how much it means to be cast on Dancing With The Stars.

She's the first celebrity to be announced for the new season.

"I feel truly blessed to be embarking on this brand new journey with @DancingABC and can't wait to learn & grow and share it with you x," she wrote.

Irwin's famous father Steve died from a stingray barb to the chest while snorkelling in 2006.

She completed a crocodile research expedition in far north Queensland before heading to New York to appear on Good Morning America.

"About four days ago I was in far north Queensland catching crocs and now here I am in New York City, about to be in LA," Irwin said.

"It's all about having the courage and strength and, for me, it is something completely different but I hope that I am able to inspire others in their own lives to seize opportunity and to make a difference and just jump, take that leap, even if it terrifies you.

"I just hope my dance partner, whoever it is, is very patient and likes animals, because you never know what I'm going to bring to rehearsal."
