The rumours were true, Australian celebrity Bindi Irwin has been in Rotorua during the past 10 days.
Bindi confirmed on her Twitter and Instagram feed she was in Rotorua by posting a photo of herself sitting by Lake Rotorua. "Grateful for a beautiful trip with my little family to Rotorua, NZ for a week of hiking and beauty. Thank you Black Swan for having us."
Black Swan Lakeside Boutique Hotel & Spa owner Arthur Gray confirmed the Irwins, including Bindi's mother Terri and brother Robert, had stayed with them for 10 days since Easter Monday through to Friday last week.
"They are a really nice family. They rode through the Redwoods and Skyline every day, that's what they were here for, mountain biking," Mr Gray said.
Lonestar desert chef Maria Kirk said she didn't believe it when one of the waitresses said Bindi and her family were dining in.
"I always watched Steve Irwin so meeting them was really special. Bindi was a baby then and now she is a young bubbly lady."
She said Lonestar had had a few other celebrities in before like Shortland Street stars and Jono and Ben and some big sports stars but the Irwins were something special.
"It was really neat, they were just so down to earth and really friendly, they let us have a photo with them and Bindi and Terri (Bindi's mum) signed my shirt."
In response to a post on the Rotorua Daily Post's Facebook page several people said they had spotted the Irwins out and about.
Ray Whare Fraser said, "my niece Neddy McCormack took a photo with her at McDonalds." In response Miss McCormack posted a selfie of herself and Bindi saying, "her and her mum were at McDonalds."
Justine Hawkins said, "she has been walking around the Koutu area with what looks like her mum. I saw her heaps."
Jessie Barbie Turner said, "she walked past me and Meesha Williams at Starbucks." A Rotorua man also posted on his Facebook page he had seen her and her mother walking down Koutu Rd on Wednesday.
He asked them if they needed some help and Bindi replied they were enjoying their walk. Bindi, now an Australian actress, television presenter, and conservationist, is the daughter of the late Steve Irwin (star of The Crocodile Hunter).
She has been involved in acting, singing, songwriting, game show hosting, and has created an instructional fitness DVD. She is also known for winning season 21 of the US Dancing with the Stars.
