Bill & Ted sequel? 'There probably will be another one' (+video)

Bill and Ted are getting together again.

Holding out for another outing for time-travelling, guitar-rockin' metalhead duo Bill and Ted? You might just be in luck, dudes.

Alex Winter confirms that a long-gestating sequel to 1991's Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, co-starring Keanu Reeves, is "probably" one step closer to being a reality.

Winter, who played Bill S Preston Esq in the sci-fi comedy franchise, also dished to MTV about the direction the sequel will take.

"I think the reality is that there probably will be another one," Winter said, days after Reeves revealed that a script has been completed and sent to the studio for approval.

"But all we know is that me, Keanu [writers] Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have talked through the years about whether it would be worth doing another one. Meaning, telling a story that we think would have the heart, the humour and the tone of the other two movies - rather than just doing it just to do it, which none of us wanted to do."

He added: "We just kicked ideas around [over the years] and eventually, we kicked one idea around that clicked.

"It felt timely. Funnily enough, it felt better because so much time had gone by. What would it be like to revisit those guys now? From a comedy standpoint, it felt kind of cool to revisit two galvanized comic characters a chunk of time later, [exploring] what you can do with that from a comedy perspective."

While he wouldn't reveal specific plot details, Winter shared that the sequel will focus on "rock and roll in the last 20 years".

He said: "The movies were always about rock and roll. That was a big part of the movies, so [we'll explore] what's happened to rock and roll in the last 20 years.

"The movie's gonna get in and play with some of that stuff. Where's rock, where are we, what's happened to the whole idea of saving the world, or what hasn't happened? There's a lot to play with there."

Winter did not mention what age the characters would be in the sequel.

Reeves, who played fellow metalhead and Wyld Stallyn 'Ted' Theodore Logan in the first two films, shared plot details for the third outing last April.

Speaking to MTV about a first draft of the script, Reeves said: "When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened.

"So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."
