KEY POINTS:
The country's biggest music festival sold out this morning, making it the fastest-selling Big Day Out on record.
Teresa Patterson of CRS Management said previous years' events had sold out, but only the day beforehand, or on the morning of the event.
Big Day Out 2007 will take place next week, on Friday, January 19, at Mt Smart Stadium in Penrose.
A final release of 2,000 tickets will be available on Monday morning through Ticketek, Real Groovy and Sounds' Auckland stores but sales will be limited to just two tickets per buyer.
US rockers The Killers and Tool will headline the event, which features more than 70 live acts from around the world.
Three of the festival's five Australian tour dates also sold out in record time, including the Sydney show, which sold out in October last year, just 12 hours after tickets went on sale.
Last year's Big Day Out failed to draw a sell out crowd, with attendance estimated at about 35,000.
The last sell-out event was in 2004, when Metallica, the Strokes and the Darkness pulled crowds of more than 40,000 people.
