Lady GaGa
has finally landed. And, rather disconcertingly, it's all a bit lacklustre.
When word first dropped that the eccentric warbler was teaming up with Mrs
Jay-Z
on new song
Video Phone
, we were in seal-clapping heaven. But ladies, we'd be lying if we said we weren't a smidge disappointed with the end result.
Sure, there's plenty of leotard-clad dirty dancing and sauciness, but no real substance. Plenty of sausage, but no sizzle.
Beyonce asked GaGa (real name
Stefani Germanotta
) to be a part of the girl-power collaboration last month, and the lady of perpetual promotion jumped at the chance.
"She (Beyonce) called me up after I saw her at the Billboard Awards...she said ‘I want you to write a verse and I want you to be in the video.' I said OK, I've got three days, so I went right in the studio and I got it done and I sent it to her and she loved it," said GaGa.
"When I was doing her video with her, she called me, and she said, 'What do you want to do?'
"And I'm like, 'I don't want to show up in some frickin' hair bow and be fashion GaGa in your video.' I said, 'I want to do you.'
"So the whole time I was learning the choreography, they were calling me Gee-yonce.'"
A seriously-toned-down GaGa appears in the video about half-way, dressed in tandem and indulges in a spot of chair aerobics with her R&B co-star. But it's Beyonce who gets to really let rip in a
Rhianna
-esque rip-off and prance around in stillies and so little on, she might as well be starkers.
We've watched it repeatedly, but still can't find the love. Have a butchers and judge for yourselves:
