The rapper spoke for 45 minutes, during which he compared the troubles facing modern celebrities to the injustices suffered by African-Americans during the fight for civil rights in the US during the 1960s.
"What I talked about in it (the wedding speech) was the idea of celebrity, and celebrities being treated like blacks were in the '60s, having no rights, and the fact that people can slander your name," he told GQ.
West said there's also a class system among celebrities, whereby those like the Kardashian family aren't as well respected as film and high-fashion figures.
"I said that in the toast. And I had to say this in a position where I, from the art world, am marrying Kim.
"And how we're going to fight to raise the respect level for celebrities so that my daughter can live a more normal life."
Here's some more highlights from the Kanye West interview.
WHEN IT COMES TO PAPARAZZI, HE'S A BLOWFISH
West isn't comfortable with the paparazzi, but he won't go after them, he'll only defend himself when necessary.
"I'm not a shark, I'm a blowfish," he said.
"People have me pinned as a shark or a predator in some way, and in no way am I that."
He also likened himself to a porcupine in the same vein.
KIM KARDASHIAN IS LIKE A DINOSAUR
"Kim is this girl who f****** turns me on. I love her," he said of his wife.
"This is who I want to be next to and be around ... You mean to tell me that this girl with this f****** body and this face is also into style, and she's a nice person, and she has her own money and is family-oriented?
"That's just as cool as a f***ing fighter jet or dinosaur! And just as rarely seen."
WILL FERRELL IS ALWAYS THE BEST INSPIRATION
"Like they said in Step Brothers: Never lose your dinosaur," said West of Kardashian.
"This is the ultimate example of a person never losing his dinosaur.
"Meaning that even as I grew in cultural awareness and respect and was put higher in the class system in some way for being this musician, I never lost my dinosaur, he said.
'KIM K' SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL IN LIFE
"She is who she is. I am who I am," he said.
"We have advisers and friends and everything, but those people are who they are and we are who we are.
"And what I had to learn from Kim is how to take more of her advice and less of other people's advice.
There's a lot of Kim K skills that were added. In order to win at life, you need some Kim K skills, period."
CARINE ROITFELD IS A STRANGE CONGLOMERATE
Similes aren't Kanye's strong point. But at least he's not stingy on compliments.
"Carine Roitfeld is the Walt Disney of what Tumblr is today," he said of the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief.
"She is the Kanye West of what Tumblr is today. She's the single most important person to what street style is today."
STYLE IS A 150 PER CENT QUOTIENT
"Skinny pants are rock 'n' roll. And big coats are really hip-hop. I'm looking for 50 per cent rock 'n' roll, 50 per cent hip-hop, 50 per cent genius.
"Because, you know for genius, you have to be at a hundred and fifty per cent."
LAYERS ARE EMOTIONAL
"If you're wearing layers, you can be in LA, New York, Paris, in an airport lounge, or on a plane, taking layers on and off however.
"And the proportions get emotional. You know how a graphic can express a feeling or an emotion? Layers can, too."
KIMYE HAS CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
"So now you take (our wedding photo), and it has a flower wall from the same guy who does the Lanvin shows, and it has a couture Givenchy dress and Givenchy tuxedo in it. That's the point," West said.
"Now the thing that is the most popular is also communicating the highest level of creativity. The concept of Kimye has more cultural significance than what Page Six could write."
