KEY POINTS:
David Beckham has filmed a guest appearance for Sesame Street.
The Los Angeles Galaxy soccer star teamed up with one of the hit US TV show's most famous puppets, Elmo, to introduce a new word to the programme's millions of young viewers.
The father-of-three - who is married to Spice Girl Victoria - chose the word 'persistence' and went on to explain why it was so important to him.
A source said: "David has always been a huge fan of the show. When he was a kid he watched it and was more than happy to go on.
"He loves dealing with kids and thought it would be a great way to get through to them. He has developed a great understanding of children because of his own boys and coaching at the Beckham soccer schools."
Sesame Street - which features puppets created by Jim Henson - began in 1969 and has broadcast more than 4,000 episodes.
Beckham is the latest in a long line of celebrities to appear in the show.
Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, REM and James Blunt are just a few names to have made an appearance alongside puppets Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster, Big Bird and Count von Count.
