From the moment the shrill roar of frontwoman Jemima Pearl's voice opens this record, she starts as she means to continue.
Fast and thrashing, each song on Get Awkward tempts you to turn the volume up a little more. Opening with the squalling Super Soaked, 20-year-old Pearl declares she just wants to run around and party down. Which is exactly what the album is all about.
Get Awkward is a sterling follow-up to the teenage punk band's self-titled debut.
Messy, loud and unrelenting, Get Awkward is a sterling follow-up to the teenage punk band's self-titled debut, that doesn't fall prey to the usual sophomore album pitfall of trying to mature their sound. It's more of the same, but even better.
The album's American release was censored by Universal for being too violent, resulting in three of album's 15 tracks being removed.
But apparently we Kiwis can handle the gore (which is pure comedy and not at all serious) and have the full release.

Verdict: These rowdy kids show no signs of growing up any time soon
