We're proud to bring you our next exclusive Barkers Sundae Session, this time with Christchurch's Doprah. Currently in New York for the CMJ Music Marathon, the band came to Auckland earlier this year to film the session.
Who: Doprah
From: Christchurch
Line-up: Songwriting and recording nucleus of Steven John Marr (guitar, backing vocals) and Indira Force (keys, vocals), who swell to a six piece for live shows with Symon Palmer (bass), Hunter Jackson (guitar), Ryan Chin (drums) and Matthew Gunn (bits and pieces)
Where they're at: Supported Lorde at Silo Park in January, released debut EP in June, currently in New York performing showcases at the CMJ Music Marathon. Nominated at the NZ Music Awards for Breakthrough Artist Of The Year and Best Music Video Of The Year (for the outstanding Stranger People video).
What they sound like: It might be better to use some of the tags on their Bandcamp page: alternative triphop ambient beats electronic female vocal psychedelic.
What they're playing in the Sundae Sessions: Most of their Doprah EP, and some only heard live so far.
Hugh's highlights: Watching six people who all look like they're in different bands working together effortlessly to create a aural experience, anchored by Indi's incredible stage presence.
