Barack Obama will see Game of Thrones before you do

US President Barack Obama is well known as a fan of quality TV dramas - and he's furthered his popular culture credentials after requesting advance copies of hit shows Games Of Thrones and True Detective.

The President of the United States of America reportedly made the request to HBO chief executive Richard Plepler at a state dinner for France last week.

The President has previously been reported to have been working his way through the box-set of Breaking Bad and is also said to be a fan of political drama House Of Cards and Boardwalk Empire.

According to the New York Times, Obama was hoping to receive DVDs of Game Of Thrones and True Detective from Mr Plepler to watch over the Presidents' Day Weekend.

The paper has reported the President asked Mr Plepler: "Where is my True Detective and Game Of Thrones?"

In December, MailOnline reported how Obama was a fan of critically-acclaimed dramas produced by cable networks.

At the time, the New York Times had reported he was watching Breaking Bad but was also eagerly awaiting the second season of House Of Cards.

The President has also repeatedly remarked HBO's The Wire is one of the greatest television shows of all time.

The now-defunct cult hit focused on the hard streets of Baltimore's projects and a drug war carried out between the city's police and its hardout drug dealers.

David Simon, the show's creator, pondered whether Obama liked the show because it so clearly dealt with issues of socio-economic strife.

"The Wire was one of the few shows that was about the other America," Mr Simon told the New York Times.

"It was set in the inner city. The characters were of a class that has been left behind economically and politically."

In a speech in December, the President vowed to spend the remainder of his presidency fighting against the kind of poverty depicted in The Wire.

He said: "The idea that a child may never be able to escape that poverty because she lacks a decent education or health care, or a community that views her future as their own, that should offend all of us and it should compel us to action. We are a better country than this."

On a lighter side, President Obama has also mentioned that he and his family like to watch comedies such as Parks and Recreation and Modern Family together.
