Pop star Avril Lavigne and rocker Chad Kroeger are engaged to be married, despite few people knowing they were even dating.
The pair hooked up while writing material for Lavigne's upcoming new album in February, and Kroeger's recent proposal had been accepted, People.com reported.
"A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a friend told People.
Kroeger reportedly popped the question on August 8 with a 14-caret diamond ring.
Lavigne, 27, was previously married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley. It will be Kroeger's first trip down the aisle.
