Avengers vs X-Men: It's never going to be happen

Fanboys and girls around the world will likely be devastated to know that a big Marvel crossover movie is never going to happen.

Comic book fans have long been holding out for the possibility that the Avengers movies would one day team up or face off against the X-Men.

However, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has definitively put that dream to rest.

"It's an impossibility at this juncture," he told Variety. "We certainly have enough films to keep us busy for a number of lifetimes."

Although the X-Men movies are co-produced by Marvel, the film rights for the mutant heroes are owned by 20th Century Fox and Disney owns Marvel Studios. This means a number of legal loopholes have kept Iron Man and Wolverine from facing off.

Not that the companies can't work together. Last week, it was revealed that Marvel and Fox had come to an agreement letting the former obtain the rights to Ego the Living Planet, a character Kurt Russell will play in next year's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

The film division came about in the 90, when Marvel sold film rights to its top characters while facing financial trouble. The company eventually formed their own film studio that launched with Iron Man, which has gone on to generate the highest grossing film franchise of all time.

Feige also reiterated his commitment to having diverse characters in the movies, citing the upcoming Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies as examples of the companies' slow progress.

While they may not appear together, Marvel fans can look forward to the next X-Men movie, Logan, out March 2, and Guardians Vol 2 will reach local cinemas on April 25.
