Avengers director Joss Whedon leaves Twitter

Joss Whedon has quit Twitter.

The 50-year-old filmmaker - who recently directed Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron - has walked away from the social media website and declined to offer a justification for his decision.

Before signing off, he wrote in reference to the recent release of the Avengers movie: "Now I may me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake 'kay. (sic)"

Joss' final tweet read: "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here."

The director's decision to walk away from Twitter comes shortly after Joss said he wasn't worried about what fans think about the Avengers movie.

He revealed: "I don't really think about the fans. I think about what I want because I'm the guy who's taking the comic book he read as a kid and turning it into a movie that I want to see as much as I want people to see it.

"[Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and I are fanboys, straight up. But we also know that if you just spend your time catering to the fans you make something that is hermetically sealed. The first question we always ask is: 'What is the way in for someone who has never seen a superhero movie?' You need to be thinking about everybody all the time."
