Film-maker James Cameron and Cirque du Soleil are teaming up to create a new show based on Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time.
Announced in Montreal, the live production will be a partnership between both the film and live performance teams.
"Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil," said James Cameron.
"I know we share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences. I look forward to doing just that on this project."
Cirque du Soleil has 1,300 performing artists from close to 50 different countries. The company celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and its shows, which have been inspired by the likes of The Beatles and Michael Jackson, have been seen by close to 150 million people in more than 40 countries.
