Candice Wyatt - a popular newsreader for Australia’s Channel 10 - has shared that she has considered amputating her foot and is “struggling to see a future” after being diagnosed with two ailments.
The journalist says she’s been brought to tears, having been diagnosed with sesamoiditis, alongside doctors finding a third sesamoid bone.
“Almost four weeks ago, something in the ball of my left foot snapped while I was walking barefoot on floorboards,” she revealed on Instagram.
“It had been a little sore in the lead-up … but nothing too bad. Suddenly, I couldn’t put weight on it at all.”
She revealed she has seen doctors, surgeons, had CT scans, MRIs, cortisone injections and “the list goes on”.
Sesamoiditis is an inflammation of the sesamoid bones in the ball of the foot and tendons they are embedded in and “isn’t curable, but can be managed”.
Wyatt has shared the pain she’s experienced after the diagnosis, saying she’s been forced to rely on friends more than she thought she would, adding “as a fiercely independent person, this brings me to tears”.
“I’m so totally out of whack and struggling to see a future through the fog, that it’s not even funny. I’ve considered amputation,” she said.
“I’ve lived on crutches for the past four weeks. I crawl in and out of the shower.
“I can’t do my normal job as a journalist, so I either have to present the news at the desk or produce from behind the scenes.
“My social life has been shot to s***e. I’m exhausted from my mobility issues.”
She also revealed that doctors found a third sesamoid bone. Most people have two.
“It’s likely I was born this way … but why it may be causing me problems now, no one can explain. There’s a chance I may need surgery to remove it,” she said.
The news presenter also urged her friends and followers to appreciate their health.
“Please – never, ever, underestimate the privilege of being healthy and able. If you can plant two feet on the ground and stand up, you’re having a good day.”
