Aussie cyclist recreates Nirvana Nevermind baby on the streets of Adelaide

An Aussie cyclist has recreated the controversial naked Nirvana baby on the streets of Adelaide.

Pete Stokes, 45, rode 150km across Adelaide to sketch the outline of the iconic baby artwork from the band's Nevermind cover using the GPS software on the fitness app Strava.

The journey took the Strava artist almost eight and a half hours to complete.

Mr Stokes crafted the baby's face, with a slightly angry expression, over the Adelaide CBD, while the infant's arms took him out to Fulham Gardens and across to Wattle Park.

The fish hook holding the bank note started in Campbelltown and was traced around Kensington Park.

Mr Stokes has created a number of sketches using the Strava fitness app, including a fox, dragon, face emoji and Beethoven to mark the composer's 250th birthday, with most of his journeys totalling more than 100km.

He posted the Nirvana baby to his Facebook page on Friday, the 30th anniversary of the album's release on September 24, 1991.

Spencer Elden, the man photographed as a baby and featured on the Nevermind cover, is suing the band over the artwork, alleging sexual exploitation over the nude image.
He has recreated the album cover several times as a teenager and adult to mark various anniversaries – including the 10th, 20th and 25th – but was always wearing swimming trunks.

Nirvana is planning to re-release the Nevermind album to mark the 30th anniversary later this year with their official website showing they are still using the image of the naked baby.
