Former
Atomic Kitten
pop star
Kerry Katona
made a shambolic appearance on British TV this week, and shocked viewers with her
slurred speech
and
erratic behaviour
.
The onetime singer - who has had a very public battle with drug addiction - appeared on ITV's
This Morning
programme, and repeatedly stumbled her way through what has to be one of the most cringeworthy live interviews I've ever seen.
Katona's behaviour on the morning TV show was so shambolic and eye-poppingly uncomfortable, concerned viewers flooded the programme's switchboard with calls.
The mum-of-four went on the show to discuss her recent plastic surgery, filmed for a new MTV doco, but her dire emotional state and slurred speech made it near impossible to decipher what she was saying.
The show's hosts
Phillip Schofield
and
Fern Britton
were clearly perturbed by Katona's unusual behaviour. Schofield turned to her at one point and asked, "
You don't seem right to me
, you've got the body sorted but
your speech is a bit slurred
, how are you feeling?"
Katona then glanced off camera, seemingly to seek the reasurrance of her husband, Mark Croft, who was at the back of the studio, and looked surprised by the question. She replied: "
Is it?
That's probably because
I'm on medication
at night-time, which I took at half past 11 last night, didn't I Mark?
"I was on a TV show last night. I wasn't talking like this yesterday, probably because it's early in the morning. I've got it with me - it's 150mg of Propiomazine."
She continued: "Now this is going to be made into a huge, big publicity thing. I'm absolutely fine, all it is is my medication, I swear to God, I'm absolutely fine. I literally just got here. I'm fine, never been happier, I swear to God."
Britton then asked the singer about a recent magazine interview in which she spoke about getting drunk on holiday, she replied: "I don't understand what you're trying to say?"
"Have you got rid of one addiction by replacing it with another? Is it alcohol?," added Britton.
A demonstrably affronted Katona said she was not an alcoholic.
Katona's publicist, Max Clifford, has since expressed concern over the star's health. "There's no way she should have been allowed to do that show," he told BBC News.
"Had I been with her, she wouldn't have done," he added.
"I must admit after today and in view of what's gone on over the last couple of months, I am increasingly concerned for her health and happiness."
Meanwhile, Katona's husband Mark has leapt to the star's defence.
"One of the side effects of her drugs is slurred speech and as Kerry took the drugs late and was up early it was particularly bad today. Kerry would like to categorically state for the record that that the only thing she drank before the show was cups of tea."

Watch the interview below and form your own decisions and judgements. Truly, it's the sort of thing you watch between your fingers.
*Warning. Slightly Not Safe For Work (NSFW).
She should never have been allowed to go on TV in that state. She was totally unfit to be interviewed. What kind of moron took one look at her and decided she was fit for broadcast on national TV?
Tres non bon.
