Army of workers set up for tonight's Rolling Stones gig

Former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor will play one of the 75 odd guitars that have arrived in Auckland ahead of tomorrow night's concert.

Taylor joined the Rolling Stones in 1969 after the death of founding member Brian Jones, but left in 1974.

At the Australian gigs, he joined the band for one or two songs.

Today at Mt Smart Stadium an army of 63 glow vest clad workers are building the set which included a large stage, flanked by two giant screens.

A catwalk will reach out from the stage into the centre of the crowd.

Production manager Dale Skjerseth said the set was transported by air and filled two cargo 747 aircraft.

Having begun the set up today at 9am, Mr Skjerseth said the team would be finished by 4 or 5pm today.

After the show, the last of a tour that had taken the band through parts of Europe, Asia and Australasia, the set would be boxed up, and shipped off to 10 different countries - including Belgium where the stage was stored.
