"Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character," he told Access Hollywood.
"She's really built it from the ground up, it's just a delight to watch her perform, the things she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly.
"She's an incredible character and we're very excited to see her and hopefully we'll leave people wanting more."
Asked whether Hathaway's Selina Kyle should be given her own film, Nolan added: "I certainly think she deserves it, she's incredible."
But don't hold your breath for a Nolan-directed Catwoman outing. He says he's done with the franchise.
"For me, Gotham and these characters, I'm done," he told Access. "I've told our story and I'm moving on. We've been working on this for about nine years.
"I've really, really enjoyed it. It's really exciting to get to the end and I've got to move on and figure out something else to do."

Hathaway also dished to Digital about working with Nolan on the final outing.
"He's lovely! He trusts us all to do our homework and come in with ideas," she shared.
"You have to come in by and large knowing what you're going to do but, if you get stuck, he'll give you the time to figure it out.
"He'll ask you the perfect question that all of a sudden makes your brain explode and you see the scene in 10,000 new ways."
She also said that she didn't base her portrayal of Catwoman on previous performances by Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt or Michelle Pfeiffer.
Halle Berry also starred as the Caped Crusader's feline nemesis in 2004's critically-maligned Catwoman, co-starring Sharon Stone. But the less we say about that free-range celluloid turkey, the better.
"I didn't want to focus on the other people's interpretation of it because I didn't see where that would get me; it would only be a rehashing of something already done - and done very well," Hathaway explained. "I thought it was probably best to focus on being a part of Chris Nolan's Gotham City."
In a separate interview with ITN, Hathaway also shared her thoughts on portraying the iconic character.
"A lot of people are like, 'So how did you make yourself more cat-like?'," she said. "I really didn't, it's not really about that. She's never actually referred to as Catwoman, she's referred to as The Cat.
"It's something that someone else gives to her, so it's not like she's got an inner feline side that I had to tap into or anything."
She added: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't aware of the history and the level of fan expectation surrounding all aspects of this franchise.
"I just trusted Chris. I knew he wasn't going to let me go out there and get egg on my face."
Wedding plans
Meanwhile, the actress has revealed that she hasn't had time to plan her wedding.
The 29-year-old star - who got engaged to Adam Schulman late last year - says she's been too tied up working on The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables to plan her nuptials.
But she's hoping to tie the knot "probably sometime next year-ish".
She told Britain's Hello! magazine: "We're getting married, probably sometime next year-ish. Not this year, it's too big with two films coming out.
"I haven't started planning yet. I was filming Les Mis when we decided to do it, and there was no way I could think about anything wedding-related with my head in the space it was in then. I've been so busy since then, I've not even decided what sort of ceremony I want."
