So Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is still slightly annoying, even in its beautifully slinky and soulful original version as it is here. But you can't really go wrong with these 19 tracks from the golden age of Phil Spector, the great, and now infamous, songwriter, producer and pioneer of the Wall of Sound technique which 50 years on continues to give these seemingly simple pop songs a heaviness, depth and timelessness. From the subtle Mexican mariachi of the Crystals' Uptown, to the vocal and orchestral explosion of Ike and Tina's River Deep, Mountain High, this is a fine collection.
